Reputation
The Lazy Trout has built a reputation for its friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and its quality food which when combined with sensible prices has made it one of the most popular pubs in the area. While we welcome last minute bookings and walk-ins where we possibly can, we strongly recommend booking to avoid disappointment.
History
The Lazy Trout was originally two 16th century cottages before it was turned into a coaching house by the Victorians (circa 1900). The pub was originally called The Three Horseshoes, but was later changed to The Lazy Trout to prevent confusion with the other Three Horseshoes Pub, less than 2miles away. Keen eyed visitors will be able to spot the etched horseshoes in the original Victorian bar windows in the front entrance. This taller central part of the building was built at this time, joining the original two stone buildings together. The external cornerstones of these two original stone buildings can be seen within the bar area.
Ownership
Under its current ownership since 2010, The Lazy Trout is truly independently owned and managed, allowing the characters of owner Will Howard and his talented team to shine.
The Team
The Lazy Trout team are what makes the pub what it is and who it is, being the life and sole of the establishment. We are proud to say that most of our current team, whether front-of-house or kitchen based have been with us for many years. The success of the pub today has been built by a combination of hard work and imagination of many individuals. Only through a true team effort are we able to offer our patrons consistent hospitality all day everyday!
